A New Layer of Child Safety in Queensland

Queensland's new reportable conduct scheme
When you walk your child through our doors each morning, you are placing something precious in our hands. We never take that for granted. Keeping your child safe is the foundation of everything we do at Sanctuary Early Learning Adventure, and it is a commitment we are always working to strengthen.
From 1 July 2026, a new layer of protection comes into effect across Queensland: the Reportable Conduct Scheme. We want to share what this means, why it matters, and how it reflects the care we wrap around every child in our centres.
What is the reportable conduct scheme
The Reportable Conduct Scheme is part of Queensland’s Child Safe Organisations Act 2024. It is overseen by the Queensland Family and Child Commission, an independent body whose role is to help keep children safe across the state.
In simple terms, the scheme strengthens the way organisations that care for children, like ours, identify, report, investigate and respond to any concern about the behaviour of an adult towards a child. It builds on the strong child safety systems we already have in place, adding clear, consistent steps that every reporting organisation across Queensland now follows.
One of the most important features of the scheme is that it doesn’t only capture serious criminal behaviour. It is designed to recognise concerning conduct early before it can escalate and to connect information across organisations so that anyone who may pose a risk to children can be identified and acted upon.
What does this mean for your child?
For families, the scheme offers genuine peace of mind. It means that if a concern is ever raised about the conduct of any worker towards a child, there is a clear, formal process that must be followed, one that puts your child’s safety and wellbeing first at every step.
Under the scheme, we are required to:
● Take every concern seriously and respond promptly.
● Report relevant concerns to the Queensland Family and Child Commission.
● Manage any risk to children straight away.
● Conduct fair, child-centred investigations.
● Learn from every matter to make our practices even safer.
“Every child deserves to feel safe, valued and heard — wherever they are.”
How this fits into our child safety culture
This scheme is not a standalone change for us, it is the next step in a child safety journey we have been on for some time. It sits alongside our Child Protection Policy, the 10 Child Safe Standards, our mandatory staff training, our safe recruitment practices, and the everyday care our educators show your children.
Our team has been fully briefed on the scheme, and every member of our staff understands their role in keeping children safe. Our leadership teams have clear, step-by-step processes to follow, and all educators’ complete mandatory child protection training. Child safety is woven into our culture, it is not a box we tick, but a value we live every day.
Our promise to you
We will always be open with you about how we keep your child safe. The Reportable Conduct Scheme reinforces what has always been true at Sanctuary: that your child’s safety, wellbeing and happiness guide every decision we make.
If you would ever like to talk about our child safety practices, or have any questions about the Reportable Conduct Scheme, please reach out to your Centre Director. We welcome the conversation, because keeping children safe is something we are proud to share with the families who trust us.
Thank you for being part of the Sanctuary family.
