30 Days of Easy Brain-Boosting Activities for Babies and Toddlers (Free ebook)

If you've ever searched "activities for my toddler" at 6am while your little one tips an entire basket of blocks onto the floor for the fourth time, this one is for you.

Here's the reassuring truth: your child's brain is already growing through the small, everyday moments you share. A song while getting dressed. A cuddle and a book before rest time. The learning is happening right there, hidden inside the ordinary.

But we know most parents would love a few fresh ideas up their sleeve. So we've put together a free guide: 30 Days of Easy Brain-Boosting Activities for Babies and Toddlers. One simple, joyful play idea for every day of the month, using things you already have at home.

Why everyday play matters more than expensive toys

For babies and toddlers, learning happens through connection, movement, repetition, language and sensory exploration. Not through flashcards, apps or the latest gadget.

When your baby drops a spoon from the highchair for the tenth time, they're testing gravity. When your toddler insists on the same bedtime book every night, they're building memory and early literacy. Repetition isn't a problem; it's how young children practise and master new skills.

The tricky part for busy parents isn't understanding that play matters. It's coming up with ideas on the spot, at the end of a long day, with whatever happens to be in the cupboard. That's exactly the gap this guide fills.

What you'll Get

This isn't a list of complicated crafts or Pinterest-perfect set-ups. It's a full month of quick, easy play ideas built around how babies and toddlers actually learn.

Inside, you'll find:

  • 30 days of simple activities, most taking just a few minutes and using everyday household items.
  • A different developmental focus each week, so you're gently supporting your child's whole growth across the month.
  • A "brain boost" note with every activity, so you know exactly what your child is building while you play.
  • A quick safety checklist and simple materials list, where the most important item is you.

No expensive toys. No prep. No pressure to do it perfectly. Just small, joyful moments of connection that add up to something big.

Built around the Sanctuary approach

Every idea in this guide reflects the same child-led philosophy that shapes life across our Sanctuary centres. We follow each child's interests and let learning unfold through play, discovery and meaningful experiences. This ebook brings a little of that thinking into your home.

Whether your little one is six weeks or nearly two, you'll find ideas that suit their age, stage and mood. And on the days when nothing goes to plan? The guide has a gentle reminder for that too.

Our Mid-Year Summative Assessments are now available for families to view on OWNA. These assessments are more than a form. They are built from the Early Years Learning Framework (and, for our Kindergarten children, the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline), which sets out the developmental milestones we look for as children grow. Twice a year, our educators bring together everything they have observed, from everyday moments to learning stories and photos, to show where your child is thriving and where they are developing next. You will see your child's strengths and achievements front and centre, along with any emerging skills we are watching grow. Where an assessment shows a child may benefit from a little extra support, that is never a cause for concern. It simply gives us the chance to work alongside you early, so we can put the right support in place together and help your child keep moving forward with confidence. Your child's summative assessment is one part of a bigger picture. Each centre also runs a quarterly developmental monitoring cycle, where educators check in regularly on how every child is tracking against those same EYLF milestones, not just at the mid and end of year points. This means nothing is left to chance between assessments. If something emerges that needs a closer look, our educators can act on it early rather than waiting for the next formal assessment to come around. This ongoing monitoring is what allows your summative assessment to feel like a natural update rather than a surprise. By the time you read it, your educators have likely already been watching, adjusting and supporting your child's development all along, and the assessment simply puts that into words for you. This information also shapes what happens in the room. It helps us tailor our program so it continues to reflect your child's individual interests, strengths and needs. Where it would help, our Diversity and Inclusion Leader is also available to join the conversation, to make sure every child is supported to thrive. As part of a positive transition to school, we ask all Kindergarten families to book a meeting with their child's educator to talk through their assessment. Thank you for partnering with us as we nurture your child's unique learning journey.
