A Proud Moment for Our Community: Sanctuary Maudsland Celebrates Maintaining Its Exceeding Rating

Emma Rossely • June 16, 2026

There are moments in every organisation that create a sense of deep pride.

Moments that remind you why the work you do matters.

This is one of those moments for all of us at Sanctuary Early Learning Adventure.

Following a recent partial reassessment conducted under Australia’s National Quality Standard framework, Sanctuary Maudsland has officially maintained its overall Exceeding Rating — an achievement that reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional early childhood education and care for the children and families who trust us every day.

While we are incredibly proud of this outcome, what matters most to us is what this recognition truly represents , because this result is not simply about a rating. It reflects years of intentional work, ongoing learning, strong leadership, reflective teaching practice and a commitment to continually improving the way children experience learning every single day.

And that is something worth celebrating with our entire community.

What does an exceeding rating mean?

Early learning centres across Australia are assessed against the National Quality Standard (NQS) — a framework designed to ensure children receive the highest standard of education and care during the most important developmental years of life.

An Exceeding Rating is awarded to services that consistently demonstrate practice above the national benchmark across critical areas including:

  • Educational programs and curriculum delivery
  • Children’s health, wellbeing and safety
  • Relationships between educators and children
  • Leadership, governance and service management
  • Family and community partnerships
  • Continuous quality improvement systems.

Maintaining an Exceeding Rating is an important achievement because it reflects consistency. Not simply performing well during one assessment process, but embedding quality into the everyday experiences children have within the service.

For families, it provides confidence that their child is learning in an environment recognised for delivering exceptional care and education.

Excellence doesn't happen by accident

At Sanctuary, we know that exceptional outcomes for children begin with exceptional educators. The quality of an early learning environment is shaped by the people within it — by educators who are curious, reflective, passionate and deeply committed to understanding how children learn best.

This recent rating reflects years of intentional investment in our teaching team and leadership development.

Over the past three years, our educators and leadership teams have participated in an intensive professional learning journey alongside respected early childhood consultant Kelly Goodsir, engaging in deep reflection around responsive teaching practice, curriculum design, learning environments and the intentional decisions educators make each day.

This work has encouraged our teams to continuously ask an important question:

How can we keep improving the learning experiences we create for children?

This ongoing culture of reflection and professional growth was specifically recognised throughout the assessment process, with our leadership systems, continuous improvement processes and educator development practices highlighted as areas of significant strength.

Because at Sanctuary, learning does not stop with children.

Our educators are learning too.

Every single day.

Investing in Future Leaders

One of the things that makes Sanctuary unique is our belief that great early childhood education requires strong leadership at every level.

Alongside our long-term professional learning work, we are now in year two of our ELEVATE Future Leaders Program — an internal leadership development initiative designed to support emerging leaders across our organisation and strengthen the future of early childhood leadership within our centres.

We know that when educators feel supported to grow professionally, children benefit from richer learning experiences, stronger relationships and more intentional teaching practices.

Leadership development is not something we view as separate from quality care. It is part of the foundation that creates quality.

This achievement reflects the incredible work of a team that never stops learning, growing and striving to do better for children.

Our Philosophy Lives In Everyday Practice

At Sanctuary Early Learning Adventure, our philosophy is not simply something displayed on a wall. It guides every decision we make.

Our commitment to connection, collaboration, inclusion and respect shapes the environments we create, the way educators engage with children, and the relationships we build with families and our wider community.

We believe children thrive when they feel:

  • Safe
  • Respected
  • Heard
  • Connected
  • Supported to explore independently
  • Confident in their own learning journey.

Maintaining our Exceeding Rating reflects the consistency with which our team brings these values to life every single day.

This achievement belongs to our educators

While ratings and assessments are important, achievements like this always come back to people.

This recognition belongs to the incredible educators who show up every day with passion, warmth, professionalism and a genuine commitment to creating exceptional learning experiences for children.

Early childhood education is deeply meaningful work.

It requires patience, emotional intelligence, expertise, reflection and an understanding that the smallest everyday moments often shape the biggest developmental outcomes for children.

We are endlessly grateful for the dedication our team brings to that responsibility.

Thank you to our families

This achievement also belongs to our families, strong partnerships between families and educators are at the heart of everything we do.

Thank you to every family who trusts us to be part of their child’s learning journey. Thank you for partnering with us, supporting our educators and helping us build the connected community that makes Sanctuary Maudsland so special. We are incredibly grateful for the relationships we share with each of you.

Looking ahead

Maintaining our Exceeding Rating is an important milestone, but for us, it is also a reminder that growth never stops.

We remain committed to continuously learning, reflecting and evolving the way we support children, families and educators across every Sanctuary community.

Because excellence is not something we achieve once.

It is something we commit to every single day.
