Bottling the Moments: It's a party at Sanctuary HKP

Welcome back to Bottling the Moments, where I take you behind the scenes of my centre visits and share some of the moments that make me smile, make me laugh and remind me why early childhood education is such a special place to be.
My recent visit to our Health & Knowledge Precinct centre was a little extra special because we were celebrating HKP's second birthday! And the team certainly knew how to throw a birthday party!!
The theme was JUNGLE, and from the moment I walked through the doors, I felt like I had stepped straight into one. The team had completely transformed the space, with jungle decorations starting right from reception and continuing everywhere I looked.
I have to say, as families arrived that morning, I am fairly certain there were quite a few mums, dads, grandparents and carers who would have happily cancelled their plans for the day and stayed for the party!
The atmosphere was so much fun.
Our lovely Chef Angelica had also made cupcakes for every family to take with them, which was such a special little touch and a lovely way to make sure our families were part of the celebrations too.
I started my morning spending time with the children during family grouping in our multipurpose space, Karulbobah, where there was already plenty of excitement.
Maddy, dressed as a zebra, very proudly made sure everyone knew exactly what she was. "I'm a ZEBRA!" she said, pointing proudly to her stripes. There was certainly no mistaking it! And then there was my friend Pippa, who is always so happy to see me and was very keen to show me around and make sure I knew exactly what was happening.
I love walking into moments like these. The children are excited, the team are excited and there is that wonderful feeling that something special is about to happen.
And there definitely was.
Before long, it was time to bring the whole centre together for the birthday celebrations.
All 102 children!! Our entire HKP team. In one space. I think that deserves a moment of appreciation all on its own!
Hats off to Jemma, Sam and the entire HKP team, because bringing more than 100 children together for a celebration is no small feat, but they made it happen beautifully.
We started with story time with our wonderful Miss BB before it was time to turn the music up for a whole centre dance party.
And this is where the fun really began!
There was music, dancing, lots of excited little people and plenty of our team getting involved too. With babies through to our kindy children all celebrating together, there was so much happening everywhere I looked.
Then, of course, no birthday celebration would be complete without cake.
There was something really special about looking around that room and seeing our HKP community together celebrating two years. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.
When we opened HKP two years ago, it was a brand-new Sanctuary community. New children. New families. A new team coming together and building something from the ground up.
From the very beginning, HKP was created with a deep focus on inclusion and the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their true potential.
The first five years of a child's life are incredibly important. The experiences they have, the relationships they build and the way they are supported during these early years help shape the foundations for their emotional, social and lifelong development.
For us, that has always meant creating a place where no child is left behind. Where every child is known, supported and included, and where learning, fun, connection and love are part of every day.
And we can only create that experience for children when we invest just as deeply in the people around them. Our team sit at the heart of everything we do. Their passion, care, knowledge and commitment bring our philosophy and our values of Collaboration, Connection, Inclusion and Respect to life every single day.
And now, just two years later, here we were with 102 children and an incredible team all together celebrating everything HKP has become.
Standing there taking it all in felt pretty special.
Once the children's celebrations were over for the morning, it was time to celebrate with our incredible team.
A beautiful platter and birthday cake had been organised in the lunchroom, so throughout the day I had the opportunity to sit, chat and celebrate with everyone as they took their breaks.
There was also a little game set up on the wall that very quickly became a highlight.
Guess the team member from their baby photo.
Now, you would think after spending so much time with our team that I would be reasonably good at this.
I was not.
There were lots of guesses, plenty of debate and quite a few surprises when the real identities were revealed. It was such a simple idea, but so much fun, and I loved seeing everyone stopping to have a guess as they came into the lunchroom.
These are some of my favourite moments during centre visits.
Of course I love spending time with our children, but I also love having the opportunity to simply be with our team. To sit around a table, share some food, have a laugh and enjoy each other's company.
As I left HKP that afternoon, I kept thinking about how much can happen in two years.
I thought about the centre we opened two years ago, with a new team preparing to welcome our very first children and families through the doors.
And then I thought about what I had just experienced.
102 children and our whole team together in one space, dancing, laughing and celebrating.
Families walking through the doors into a jungle, collecting cupcakes on their way through and sharing in the excitement.
137 people dancing and celebrating together, probably having no idea just how much they inspire me, how much happiness they bring into my life, and how incredibly grateful I am that they are part of Sanctuary.
For me, that is what Sanctuary is all about.
Children who feel like they belong.
Families who feel part of something.
A team who genuinely care about the children, each other and the community they are creating together.
Two years ago, HKP was a vision we were bringing to life.
Today, it is a beautiful, thriving Sanctuary community filled with its own people, its own stories and so many special moments still to come.
Happy 2nd Birthday Sanctuary HKP. What a wonderful two years it has been.
Until next time...
